The Promises of God, Part 6 by Allan McGuirl
I came across an interesting definition on Google for the word “promise” that I really liked. “To assure someone that one will definitely do, give or arrange something; undertake or declare that something will happen.” Wow! You know when that takes place there is a wonderful feeling and great respect for that person.
God has given us some wonderful promises that have been such a great help to you and I. One of the most exciting promises of God is in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you…” Sometimes we are impatient for the answer. But the verse goes on to say, “…and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” God keeps His promises to the fullest degree.
I keep thinking back to some amazing stories that need to be told. For example, we needed 100 Christian radio stations in Indonesia and God answered immediately. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Sometimes it takes a while for our desires to be fulfilled, as with our needs in Greenland. It took eight years in fact, but then in 2008 we got radio licenses for every major town in Greenland. We were even granted the same frequency for each community, something that has never happened before. Many of these people are nomadic and move from one town to another so their Galcom solar fix-tuned radio works wherever they go. God certainly gave us the desire of our hearts.
God also gave us the wisdom to build them and that is another precious story. As you know, Galcom has produced over a million solar powered fix-tuned radios that have been distributed in over 140 countries around the world. At one point, we needed a pick-and-place machine to make up the circuit boards. Blackberry was getting rid of a half-million dollar unit for an upgrade. We claimed Psalm 37:5 wrote out a request, and then talked to their accounting department. When they found out we were a missionary organization, they sold the unit to us for $115,000. We didn’t have that much money, but as we prayed and shared the need, a group of business men from Western Canada provided the funds. Praise God. He is there to care for you as in amazing ways, as well. He gives us the wisdom to carry out His will. I often say, “Just hold on to God’s hand and watch Him work.”
In closing, God in His Word says He has plans for you. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This is God’s promise for you and your future. Right where you are, talk to Him.
